Kenosha WI History

Between the years of 1902 and 1088, Kenosha produced millions of automobiles and trucks under the names of Jeffery, Rambler, Nash, Hudson, LaFayette, and American Motors Corporation (AMC). With the departure of American Motors, Kenosha undertook a major program to re-define itself as an attractive location for many new businesses. Due to its skilled workforce, this was a successful endeavor and the community is still expanding. Today, however, Kenosha is also known as a “bedroom community” within the Chicago-Milwaukee megalopolis, often attracting new residents from Illinois, especially in the more newly developed western reaches of the city. Employment demographics in Kenosha today are mainly white collar. The city’s largest employer is the multi-level educational system which includes Kenosha Public Schools as bell as UW-Parkside. The largest private employer in Kenosha is Abbot Laboratories.
